Each year over $60 billion is lost to fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicare. However, the cost in terms of loss of quality of care is immeasurable.
CARIE, as a part of its mission to improve the quality of care older people receive, began the Pennsylvania Senior Medicare Patrol (PA-SMP) in 1997. The SMP provides Medicare fraud prevention education statewide. If you have a question about fraud or abuse, have noticed suspicious charges on your statement from Medicare, or would like to report Medicare fraud, call 800-356-3606 and ask to speak with an SMP staff person.
